THRUXTON FETE

What a lovely day it’s been! Beautiful weather, a fantastic turnout and so many lovely people stopping by for a chat.

I’m especially excited that two of my prints are now on their way to Perth, Australia! 🇦🇺

A huge thank you to everyone who bought a print, card or bookmark, and to everyone who stopped to look, chat, ask questions and show your support. It really does mean so much to me and I’m incredibly grateful.

There’s something extra special about being part of my village fete, right on my doorstep, and being able to support and be supported by the local community. It really is wonderful to see local people coming together. We must support these local events, otherwise they can’t be sustained and we will lose them. It was amazing to see so many people in attendance, such wonderful local produce, and all the makers and creators. Well done everyone.

Days like today are a lovely reminder of why I love doing what I do. As usual I forgot to take any photos!

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY

This little beauty popped up in my memories today, and I’m so glad it did.

A year ago, I was playing. Really playing. Not worrying about whether something was “right” or whether it would become a finished piece. Just experimenting and seeing what happened.

This was a piece of scrap paper I’d been using to protect my table while coating my cyanotype papers. The coating was uneven, with splatters, puddles and little pools of cyanotype chemistry. It had even caught some sunlight before I stopped and thought why not?

Why not make a print on it and see what comes out?

So I did.

And somehow, all those happy accidents became part of the piece. I love the ripples and pools in the chemistry, the way they create a watery, painterly feeling that echoes the ebb and flow of the water that eventually washed the print.

I didn’t even use a contact frame, so the fern has this wonderful mix of depth and focus. Some edges are crisp and defined, while others soften and blur into the paper. Together, they create this feeling of movement, almost as though the fern is dancing in the sunlight.

It’s imperfect. Unplanned. A little bit wild.

And I think that’s exactly why I love it. The rules were torn up and made something even more unique.

I’m especially grateful that this appeared in my memories today. It’s been a long time since I’ve made anything. Anything at all, let alone cyanotypes. The last few weeks have been stressful, and somewhere amongst all of that, I think I’d forgotten just how much creating means to me.

This feels like a little reminder from a year ago. A quiet nudge back towards myself.

Things change. Feelings come and go. Life gets messy and sometimes creativity gets buried beneath everything else.

But the hunger to make, to experiment, to wonder what if? That has always and will always be there.

It’s still there. And perhaps I just need to let myself play again. 🌿

FOREVER HOME

Last Friday, this print found her forever home 💙

A couple of months ago, a lovely colleague at work saw this piece and fell in love with it. She went home and told her sister all about it… and honestly, the fact that something I made stayed with her enough to share it with someone she loves already meant so much to me.

That same evening, her sister quietly messaged me to buy it as a surprise for her birthday.

And this weekend she finally received it.

I just love the story behind this one. The thought of seeing something, you know someone you love would treasure, and quietly making it happen for them.

Women supporting women. Sisters knowing each other so well. Those thoughtful little acts that say, I see you. I know you. I knew this was meant for you.

I feel incredibly grateful that something I created became part of such a lovely moment between two sisters. Sometimes a piece of art finds exactly the home it was meant for.

Happy birthday and a massive thank you to these two wonderful humans!

STUDIO TIDY

As you can see it was long overdue!

This is a pretty honest reflection of how life has felt over the last few months. Between work, markets and building, this little creative space has slowly become a dumping ground to store everything except creativity.

I haven’t been able to properly get into the studio since March, and although I’ve still been making cyanotypes, it’s felt like I’ve been working around the chaos rather than within a space that inspires me.

Today felt like a reset.

There is still plenty left to organise, but I can finally see the floor again, my desk is clear, and for the first time in a long while it feels like I can breathe in here.

I’m hoping my wonderfully organised sister can help me refine the space over the next few weeks so it becomes somewhere that’s functional, calming and easy to work in. As much as I want it to work for my creative practice, I know it will do wonders for my mental wellbeing too.

Here’s to fresh starts, clearer spaces and making room for new ideas. I can’t wait to spend the next six weeks creating in a studio that feels like mine again.

OUR LOCAL MARKET - WILTON VILLAGE

Today was one of those days that reminded me why I love doing markets.

Sales may have been a little quieter than hoped (I think the heat and the football had something to do with that!), but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the event or the incredible makers who were there. The organisers did a fantastic job, the venue was beautiful, and I had the perfect shady spot to spend the day.

One of the highlights was meeting so many talented artists and makers, including my wonderful technical demonstrator from university, who was exhibiting her beautiful cyanotypes and handmade photo albums. It felt like a lovely full-circle moment.

I had some really encouraging conversations and received such kind feedback about my work, which always means more than people realise. Add in good coffee, a visit from Mum and Dad, and having my husband there to help me set up and pack everything away, and it made for a genuinely lovely day.

Not every market is about the number of sales. Sometimes it’s about meeting your creative community, sharing your work with new people, and being reminded why you started in the first place.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, browse, bought a print or came to support me.

I’ve also had some lovely enquiries recently. Thank you so much! I’ll be spending this weekend catching up on messages now that work has finally eased off.

I’m looking forward to taking some time to slow down, set some intentions for the weeks ahead, and get stuck into creating.

I’ve got lots of fresh cyanotype prints ready for the summer, and tomorrow is the first chance to see them.

I’ll be at the market with a slightly smaller pitch than usual, so I’ll be bringing a carefully curated selection of original cyanotype prints and cards. If you’re planning to come along, I’d love to see you and have a chat.

WHAT A DAY!

The weather certainly wasn’t on our side, but despite the wind and rain, I had such a wonderful day at the Festival of Arts & Crafts.

I met so many lovely people, had some fantastic conversations with customers, and received such encouraging feedback about my work. It was also a pleasure to meet fellow creatives and be part of such a supportive and talented community.

Thanks to @willow_and_dusk for an over due catch up, @feyre.jewellery for all your gazebo wisdom and for being a top neighbour, and to @susiemaycreates for our lovely print swap!

I’m incredibly grateful for the experience and, if anything, my only regret is not booking both days!

POPPIES FOR PEONIES

One of our lovely neighbours and friends was cutting back a few of her beautiful poppies after they had taken over the garden. Thankfully for me, she kindly offered them up for pressing and cyanotypes.

I arrived with a trade of my own, fresh peonies cut from the garden in exchange for the most gorgeous armful of poppies. A flower swap feels like the loveliest kind of currency.

Today’s little collection is now ready for next weekend’s sale, and I also created a special print just for her. It’ll be hanging in her hallway as a reminder of the beauty of those blooms. I honestly can’t wait to see it in situ.

INSPIRATION

Saw my mum on Saturday for a long overdue catch up. I grabbed a copy of @bwphotomag off the bookshelf and the first page I opened was this article on @mandybarkerphotography.

Inspired by Anna Atkins’ early cyanotypes, Mandy Barker created a series using washed-up synthetic clothing collected from British coastlines to resemble delicate marine algae. The project highlights the hidden environmental impact of fast fashion and microplastic pollution, using the beauty of cyanotype to draw attention to ocean waste.

It felt like one of those perfectly timed moments. Out of all the pages in the magazine, I somehow landed straight on an artist working with cyanotype and environmental storytelling. THE BIG REVEAL!

Happy Saturday everyone. The sun is shining, and I thought it was finally time to share this reel after sitting on it for nearly a month.

Over the past few months I’ve been pushing my practice in new directions, moving from smaller works into larger scale cyanotypes. This A1 print was one of my biggest creative goals for the first quarter of the year, and having the space during the Easter break to fully immerse myself in the process made it possible.

I’m incredibly pleased with how this piece came out. The chemistry was on point, the tones developed beautifully, and seeing cyanotype at this scale feels really impactful. Exploring larger work has reminded me how important play and experimentation are within a creative practice, especially when stepping into something unfamiliar.

I’ve also been experimenting with creating reels and videos to document and share my work. Social media feels very different to when I first used it during my wedding photography days, and honestly, learning how to show up online again can feel a little intimidating. But creativity is all about trying, learning, and evolving, and the only real way to improve is to keep doing it.

So here it is, one step further outside my comfort zone and one step further into this new chapter of Wild Cyan & Harris.

SHREWTON CRICKET CLUB - CRAFT FAIR

Highs and lows come with the territory of market life but today was definitely a high.

What started as a small craft market and boot fair turned into one of my best days to date. I spoke to so many people who were genuinely excited about my work. I had conversations with an artist, ceramicist and a photographer. And came away with some brilliant event recommendations from some lovely visitors, which I will follow up on.

The support, the conversations, the curiosity it all meant a lot. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared kind words, bought a print or followed my page today. It’s given me a real boost.

There’s a lot going on at the moment, and honestly, these markets have been a bit of a breather from all the chaos! Today felt easy in the best and lightest way.

Also, having Josh there, a sunny drive, a few hours outdoors, and bacon sarnies together. Sometimes it’s the simple things that make the best mornings. Thank you for carrying all my stuff in one go from the car!
